The 2023 Ford Super Duty is the Horsepower and Torque Master

In September, when Ford showed its revised 2023 Super Duty trucks, it was missing some key information like the horsepower and torque for its 4 different engines or how much weight it could tow or carry. That info is available now--and anyone familiar with the pettiness of truck manufacturers will not be surprised to hear that Ford's numbers are now the best (for now).

Horsepower, Torque Battles Have a New Champ

The 2023 Super Duty will have four engine choices: two gas V-8s, and regular and high-output versions of the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V-8. The new 6.8-liter gas V

The standard diesel Power Stroke creates 475 hp and 1,050 pounds-feet. If you want more power, the high-output version increases those numbers to 500 hp and 1,200 pounds-feet.

The Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 reach 470 hp at most, while the upcoming high-output Cummins diesel in the RAM 3500 will make 420 hp. 1,075 pounds of torque. Therefore, Ford currently has bragging rights over its competition.

If You Dream It, the Super Duty Can (Probably) Tow or Haul It

While having the most horsepower and torque is excellent, Ford also wants to have its vehicles known for their towing and payload capacities. Although a full towing chart hasn't been released yet, various highs capabilities are being boasted about.

The 2023 F-450 is the most tow/haul capable Super Duty, edging out the one-ton F-350. The latter better compares with HD trucks from Chevy/GMC and Ram. For '23, max towing capacity for the F-450 using a gooseneck increases by 3k pounds to 40k. Its fifth wheel capacity also increases by 5k pounds, up to 35k total.

The F-350’s towing capacity is 38,000 pounds with a gooseneck trailer; an increase from 35,750. (It's worth mentioning that these towing capacities are only for regular-cab models with dual rear wheels that have the high-output diesel and the Max Tow Package.)

The Silverado and Sierra HDs have a towing capacity of 36,000 pounds while the Ram 3500 has a max towing capacity 37,090 pounds. If you're looking at conventional hitch towing, then the 2023 F-450 can tow 30,000 (up from 24,200) while in single-rear-wheel configuration; whereas the F-350 maxes out 28,000 pounds with dual rear wheels but 25,000 if in single...

The maximal payload capacity Ford Super Duty can carry is 8,000 pounds- but this differs per truck as it is dependent on configuration. This information will be stored in the driver-side door jamb via a sticker that includes the specific maximum capacities for that vehicle. For comparison, Silverado and Sierra HDs have a maximal payload capacity of 7,290 pounds while Ram 3500 trucks are able to carry up to 7,680 pounds.
